INTRODUCTION
We have five dogs at our home . Initially, nearly 4 years ago, we had brought home just one dog- a male labrador whom we named Avis. Avis was 40 days old when we brought him to our home. We had bought Avis from a pet shop at Bharat Nagar, Delhi. From day one we treated Avis as our son. When Avis was nearly one year old, some body suggested us that we should bring home a bitch too to give Avis company. Thus we bought a labrador female puppy whom we named Angel. When Angel was around one and a half year old, then Avis and Angel mated with each other. Angel became pregnant and she gave birth to seven puppies - 3 males and 4 females - on 7th december 2010. Now we started searching suitable families who can adopt these puppies. Our only criteria was - we will give these puppies to only such families who are true dog lovers. After all Avis is our son so these puppies were like our grand children. We searched for suitable families with great energy, but we could find only 4 genuinely dog loving families in the next 5-6 months and we gave our four puppies to these families (one puppy to each family). We gave all these puppies to these families for free because we had decided from the very beginning that these puppies are like our grand children and we can not sell them. But despite all our effort we could not find suitable families for the remaining three puppies. They remained with us and started growing up. When these three puppies became one year old then we accepted the fact that now they will remain with us. So we were now left with 5 dogs in our small house. These puppies kept growing and became 16 months old in that small house. Recently we sold that house in Delhi and shifted to a larger house on rent in Vasundhra Ghaziabad to give these 5 dogs enough space to play and freely move. Finding a house on rent with these 5 dogs was also not easy. Because mostly landlords in Delhi NCR do not give their houses on rent to families who have dogs with them and we had 5 dogs.
As I wrote earlier 3 puppies remained with us because we could not find suitable families for them. among them two are males and one is female. We have named the two male puppies as Ballu and Govind (both golden coloured) and the female puppy as Kallo (Alia)-she is black couloured. In the new house, God knows what happened to Govind and Ballu , they started fighting with each other and with Kallo as if they will kill each other. Perhaps they became jealous with each other. So my mother-in-law suggested to us that we should again search for families which are willing to adopt these puppies.
We called our Vet for help he gave us telephone number of some other Vet who knows some NGO that help in dog adoption. That Vet gave us mobile number of a female dog activist who said she will help us in finding families who can adopt our three puppies. We told her that we will give these puppies to only such families who are dog lovers. She assured us that she does rigorous screening before selecting a family who can adopt a dog. She gave us number of another dog activist who lives in Faridabad. He too sounded very sincere.
The Story Of a Mysterious Boy Orco
The dog activist of Faridabad recommended a bengali boy named Orco to us. He said he knows Orco personally. Orco is a very nice boy. He and his family have great love for dog. Orco talked to my wife on her mobile phone and came to our house to meet these puppies in the evening nearly 16 days ago. On coming to our house, he behaved in a manner that gave us an impression that he is a very soft spoken and sophisticated boy who loves the company of dogs. On meeting the three puppies he said that he would like to take Kallo. When we enquired he said he is doing B.Sc from Aurbindo College, Delhi University. He said that he lives with his mom, dad and younger sister in Vaishali, Ghaziabad. Vaishali is a nearby locality to Vasundhra, where our present house is situated, so we were happy that Kallo will go to a family who lives nearby. We said to Orco that we will come to your house at Vaishali the next day morning and meet your family. If we found everything OK then we will give Kallo to you.
Next day I, my wife and my son, went to Orco's house (at the address given to us by him- House Number xxx, 2nd floor, Sector-5, Vaishali) in our car. I am not giving the house number to avoid any controversy. We also took Kallo along. Time was around 7.30 am. We had decided that I and my wife will go into Orco's house and meet his family. My son will stay with Kallo in the car. If we will find them good enough then we will call our son to bring Kallo into the house and give her to Orco's family. When we reached the address given by Orco, we found that it is a small flat on 2nd floor. There we met, apart from Orco, a Man (who introduced himself to us as Orco's father), a woman ( who said she was mother of Orco) and a girl who Orco introduced as his sister. They all behaved as if they are a small happy family. The man said that he is a maths teacher. We were assured that they are good people, so we called our son who had stayed in the car with Kallo. We handed over Kallo to them with heavy heart. My wife is very attached to all the dogs staying in our home. She even began to weep when we said Good Bye to Kallo and left that place without her. She requested these people to love Kallo. Orco and his entire family assured us that they will love Kallo like their own child.
We came back home. On the first day my wife called 3 to 4 times at the mobile number which Orco had given us by telling that it is his number to enquire about Kallo's well being. Each time Orco answered the call.
Next day when my wife called on that same mobile number, the person answering the call was that female whom we had met at Vaishali's 2nd floor flat and who had said that she is Orco's mother. She said " I am not in the house at present. This mobile phone is with me. Kallo is alright". Now when ever my wife would call at that number either no body would answer the call or that lady would answer in annoyed voice. She always gave very vague answer about Kallo to my wife on phone. Orco had first called my wife on her mobile before coming to our house to meet our puppies from some other mobile number. My wife found that number from the call log of her phone and dialed that number in order to talk to Orco because my wife was very anxious about Kallo. When my wife called on this another mobile number the call was answered by that girl whom Orco had introduced as his sister. She also said that she is right now not with Kallo. When my wife tried to ask her about Kallo she gave her another mobile number on which she said we can talk to Orco. My wife dialed on that number then this time it was Orco answering the call. He said he is out of the house but Kallo is good. Our anxiousness about Kallo was increasing because Orco and his family were behaving strangely on phone. So last saturday I got up early in the morning and went to that Vaishali's flat where we had given Kallo to Orco's family. There neither Kallo nor Orco were present. I only found that lady ( who had said to us that she was Orco's mother) in the house. She said Kallo has gone to Sarojani Nagar along with Orco. I said why? She said Orco has gone to stay with his nani who lives in Sarojani Nagar. She gave me an address of Sarojani Nagar with the name of contact person Subir Roy. She said you can meet Orco and Kallo there. That day I had some urgent work so I could not go to Sarojani Nagar. But my wife called on Orco's mobile and asked him that why he has taken Kallo to Sarojani Nagar, can't his mom take care of Kallo? He said "no aunty it is not like that, my college is near my nani's house and I had my practical exams for the next 6 -7 days, so I ahve come to stay at my nani's house. He further said "I have brought Kallo along with me because Kallo is most attached to me and she can't live without me".
On sunday my wife called that dog-activist who had recommended Orco to us. He did not answer her call. He called on her mobile on the monday morning (9th april 2012). During the telephonic conversation he informed my wife that the woman that we had met at the Vaishali's flat was not Orco's mother. and the man was not his father. Orco's mother is some other woman who lives in Mumbai. My wife hates those who speak lies. So she was shocked at this revelation. We immediately started from our house to meet Kallo at Sarojani Nagar house because we were now thinking that Orco is a big liar so he can't be a good human being. God knows why he has taken Kallo from us? Is he a dog's breeder who sells dog? We were all very disturbed. When we reached at the address at Sarojani Nagar which that lady had given us we found that the address was wrong. The person who opened the door was not a bengali and he did not know Orco. I called Orco on his mobile from there. He said now Kallo is at his real father's house at Duggal Colony, near Khan Pur Debli Crossing. We immediately went to the address given by Kallo. Thanks God here we found Kallo. The man present here as guardian of Kallo appeared to be very poor. He was old too. There was an old woman also present in that house. The house was very dirty. God knows, Who he was? Now we could not believe Orco that he was his father. Kallo was immensely excited on seeing us. W took Kallo in our car and brought her back to our house.
