Commonwealth games 2010 is going to be hosted by Delhi. For this Indian and Delhi Governments are making large scale preparation. Flyovers are being made in all parts of the city to make the traffic movement fast. Metro Rail project is in full swing. Many new routes have been added to the overall plan of Metro roll out in Delhi. Delhi Metro is one of the most modern metro rail system in the world today. Parks are being developed on waste lands in all parts of the city.
But some people are facing lots of hardships due to this Commonwealth Games preparation. Many shops which were running from residential areas are being sealed. These shops had been in business for the last several years. And municipal officials had no problem with their existence till now. But because of Commonwealth Games these shops are being forced to shut down now, to give Delhi a cosmetic make over. I ask one question from the government: Why did you allow these shops to open in the first place? When so many years have been passed since these shops came into operation, and when shopowners' families become completely dependent upon these shops for their financial sustainability, all of a sudden you are asking them to close their shops in the name of Commonwealth Games - how can those families survive? Previously your officials were oblivious to the "un-authorized" existence of these shops because they were getting their weekly quota of bribes from the owners of these shops. My question is: Do those officials also not deserve punishment?
I will request the government to show compassion and provide the shop owners some alternative place at affordable price to set their shops.
